WHITBY — The Ontario government is investing $21,350 in the Whitby 55+ Recreation Centre. This funding represents the 4th quarter funding installment for the Centre, totaling $102,876 in annual funding from the Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility.

“The Whitby 55+ Recreation Centre brings our seniors together and provides them the opportunity to remain engaged in our community,” said Lorne Coe, MPP for Whitby and Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier. “This funding shows our Government’s ongoing commitment to the health and well-being of seniors in Whitby.”

This is one of 299 Senior Active Living Centres (SALCs) that Ontario funds.

“Seniors are the most important people in Ontario. They are the ones who raised the families and built the best province, Ontario, in the best country in the world, Canada,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “Our Seniors deserve our respect and dignity. That is why Seniors Active Living Centres are so important so that seniors can stay fit, active, healthy, and socially connected, close to home.”

SALCs offer a wide variety of activities including fitness, healthy lifestyle and wellness classes, plus recreation, social activities, and learning opportunities. These supports are a huge success among seniors.

“Whitby’s 55+ Recreation Centre offers an incredible variety of programs and services to older adults in our community, ensuring that age is no barrier to staying healthy, active, and connected. Thank you to the Government of Ontario for recognizing the importance of Senior Active Living Centres and making investments that empower seniors to live their lives to the fullest.”
